Requesting an Audience
I was having lunch with a friend, during our conversation we spoke about prayer-talking with God during worship at church. Specifically, praying at the altar. Are you comfortable kneeling at the altar before God or do the thoughts of others watching restrict your posture of prayer? We can be tempted to be concerned about what others will think. I have conversations with God everywhere, at home, in my vehicle (or someone else’s), the grocery store, hair salon, church, on an aircraft or beach, anywhere. My altar preference is to kneel at the altar when the sanctuary is quiet and still. Somewhere along the way, my mind began thinking about ‘requesting an audience’, which is protocol to interact with someone of significant title such as a monarch or the Pope. After all, what more significant audience to request than the presence of God? But, my favorite place for fervent prayer is my closet. I am reminded of “Come on in the Room”, a Georgia Mass Choir song from the late 80’s and the movie War Room’s Ms. Clara, who was intentional, strategic and fervent in her prayer life. There is no need to request an audience with the most powerful and omnipotent presence of God. Simply invite God to meet you where you are, asking Him to “come on in the room” without consideration of formal wardrobe or written request, only a posture of worship to humbly bow before God.
No matter your posture of prayer, seated in a pew, kneeling at the altar, relaxed in your favorite chair or during your lunch break, there is no formal request required. Ask God to join you anywhere and feel the power of His presence.
